Rimfrost Productions stage new theatre based on themes that should be highlighted and stories we believe should be told. Rimfrost was started on Senja in 20116, and moved to Tromsø i 2013. Our productions are founded on documentary material, but the end result ranges in form, method and target audience. The textual foundation is in story-telling and the under-communicated story, therefore we develop (with a few exceptions) new stage text for our productions. The themes we work with can be complex, and we treat them with rigour and respect, but the final expression on stage shall be accessible, full of curiosity, presence, and humour.
All of our productions are fully tourable. We do this so that the performing arts are not just reserved for the cities and the audience near a stage house. We believe that performing arts is something everyone should have the opportunity to experience, and therefore we want to make this accessible through touring.
Rimfrost has been under the artistic direction of Kristine Myhre Tunheim since 2010, and further consists of Alexander Rindestu and Jeanette Solbakken. The company works on a project basis, and collaborates with different artists based on the needs and directions of individual projects.
Rimfrost productions won the Hedda prize for best children’s show of 2018 for their work with Hologaland Teater on “TOBIAS!”
Rimfrost was started in 2009 by actors Kristine Myrhe Tunheim, Nanna Elisabeth Berntsen, Jeanette Solbakken, Alexander Solhaug Rindestu, and Morten Røsrud, after they all graduated Nord-Trøndelag University College and the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. The company was an expansion of the student project kompaniMITTtroms, which was initiated by Tunheim and Berntsen in 2006. Rimfrost was based on Senja for a long time but moved to Tromsø in 2013, where the collective is based in the shared office Perrong 48 at Rådstua Theatre House. From here, Rimfrost has a close relationship with the RadArt network for northern stagecraft.
Straw clad in hoarfrost breaking and crackling under winter boots. Is a forest transformed into a magical elven castle. Is the tempting, illegal metal on a swing set. Do not lick it. Rimfrost is youth, a fresh driver’s licence and a frosted car window. Is the frost in your moustache and your cold, stiff nose hairs. Breath clouding as you exhale.
